Simona sent us from La Borgaccia with another delicious breakfast, and some lavender essential oil she made herself. It was hard to leave that beautiful place.
On our way to Maranello, we stopped by a nature preserve in a valley of the Modena Appenines, where a bunch of little cold volcanoes have formed - called Salse di Nirano. They are salty, minerally mud, made up through faults and cracks by subterranean methane veins. Pretty cool!
Then to the last of the three car museums - Museo Ferrari in Maranello.
The F40, says Hart, was the first mid-engine production car that hit 200 miles per hour - he was pretty stoked to see it.
The La Ferrari Spider was my favorite. Hart is not a fan. Ah, well.
F1 Ferrari from the 1950s
Hart cannot get enough tortelloni in brodo
Affettati misti - mortadella di bologna, prosciutto di parma, coppa di testa...and the gnocchi
Added culatello di zibello - so damn good.
We got a little lost walking back to the train station from the market...what was supposed to be a leisurely 17 minute stroll with plenty of time to find our train turned into an hour-long walk with dead phone batteries and the train departure looming every nearer. Not fun, but hey - an adventure, right?
We were happy to get to Florence, to our AirBnB which was on a quiet street, super close to the train station. Our host met us, gifted us a super-spectacular panettone with creme and chocolate, and told us that the building used to be a convent. I braved the 48 stairs back down to get some Tuscan vino - chianti and brunello di montalcino. Crept back up and crashed. We did not leave for 36 hours.... after three days of stressful driving (never been tailgated so much, or been amongst so many flagrant speeders!) and the panicky hike through Bologna...needed to recharge the batteries.
